PJ Harvey – Let England Shake

Sheela Na Gig was the first track I ever heard from PJ Harvey back in the early 1990’s. After Uh Uh Her was released I sorta lost track of PJ and missed the release of White Chalk. This year she released Let England Shake and what a beautiful album this is! The album release brought us 12 short films from Seamus Murphy. Bitter Branches is my favorite track from the album. Enjoy!

All the roads lead to Dubspot

In January 2011 Crate2play enrolled in school but it wasn’t just any other school.

The first time I heard of Dubspot was in 2006.  I was moving from NY to Berlin and I had some DJ equipment up for sale on craigslist.  I sold my  DJ console to this really young kid.  When I asked him how long he had been DJing he said he had just enrolled at Dubspot.  I asked him what is that?  He said it was a  DJ and Electronic Music Production School down on 14th Street.  Fast forward to a couple of years later and I am in Berlin and everybody is using Ableton and I knew I wanted to learn it too.  So I begin researching for Ableton courses.  I go to the Ableton website and there it was Dubspot under the education tab and as soon as I saw the address I remembered that kid.  In the summer of 2010 I was in NY and I decided to attend a Dubspot Ableton workshop.  As soon as I walked in and saw the set up I knew that was the place for me! After the workshop I decided to enroll in the Ableton Live Producer Certificate Program.  The Ableton Live Producer Certificate Program is the best hands on Ableton training you’ll ever experience.  Never in my life did I imagine I would sit in a class taught by Raz Mesinai and John Selway.  DJ Kiva, Michael BangInclude, Evan Sutton and  Sean Clemens-Brotha Sean were also amazing instructors to whom I am forever grateful. Did I mention the staff? Those guys rule! I was able to change my class schedule no problem.  I got them in touch with my friends from Soul Clap and they organized a workshop.  What about the students? I met the most talented people from all walks of life. We all had 2 things in common our love for music and Ableton. What’s better than a friendship based on music!  Dubspot is not just a school it is the place where your musical vision comes alive.  Special thanks to that kid, wish I had your contact information I’d like to thank you personally.  As for my Ableton skills I am currently working on my music!  Stay tuned.

Puttaparthi: A little town in India

In November 2010 Crate2play took a trip to India. We wish we had these life size instruments for real!  When in India a tambourine always comes in handy.

Founded in 2001, Sri Sathya Sai Mirpuri College of Music at Prasanthi Nilayam focuses on both Hindustani and Carnatic styles of vocal music. Students are also trained in various musical instruments such as tabla, mridangam, veena and sitar.

Labor Day Weekend 2010

A lot has happened since August 2010! Yours truly has been everywhere and nowhere so let’s get this party started!

Crate2play ended the summer 2010 season by attending a Blkmarket Membership party. Our ears were treated to a Bpitch Control Showcase in Brooklyn somewhere between the Gowanus and the Home Depot!  Thanks to Casi Siempre/pizzaproblem for letting me use her camera mine ran out of batteries.  I got lucky and got this funny shot of Ellen!

Dance, dance, dance! Have a listen here:
